Free Quick and Easy Crochet Bookmark Pattern in Granny Stripe
I came across some thread I had in lovely Green, Red and Yellow colours and with the weather starting to warm up a bit and Spring very much on the horizon, my mind went to a beautiful Spring garden with the beginnings of flowers starting to bloom.

These little skeins of yarn are only 5g and so I was never going to make a large project with them, but they are the perfect size for a small, quick and easy project, and what better than a crochet bookmark!
I used the fantastic Granny stripe pattern for this bookmark and I think it’s super cute and reminds me of rows of red and yellow flowers in a garden.
If you want the satisfaction of finishing a quick and easy crochet project, (and you read books, or know someone who does that you could give it to – so it would be useful!) then this is a great project for you! It doesn’t use much yarn and can be easily made in a morning, ready for you to read a book in the afternoon!
Want to know how to crochet this? Let’s go!

Step by Step pattern
- Start with your Green yarn and make 15 foundation chain stitches
2. Start Row 1 by making one double crochet stitch (treble crochet stitch in UK terms), into the sixth chain stitch from your hook
3. Then make 2 more double crochet stitches (treble crochet stitches in UK terms) into that same chain stitch
4. Miss the next chain stitch and make 3 more double crochet stitches into the next chain stitch
5. Repeat step 4 once more, then miss the next chain stitch and work one double crochet stitch into the last chain stitch
6. Turn to work the second row. Start with 3 chain stitches which will act as the first double crochet stitch
7. Next make 2 double crochet stitches into the same stitch at the base of the three chains you have just made
8. Make 3 double crochet stitches into the space between the groups of 3-double crochet stitches in the row below – the groups of 3 double crochet stitches are what forms the Granny Stripe pattern
9. Continue working groups of 3 double crochet stitches into each space between the groups in the row below until the end of the row, and work 3 double crochet stitches into the top of the three standing chain at the beginning of row 1, however, on the last ‘yarn over and pull through 2 loops’, pull the red yarn through the last 2 loops to change to the red yarn, and then cut the green yarn
10. Now work 2 rows in the red yarn, again continuing the granny stripe pattern working groups of 3 double crochet stitches, with the first row starting and ending with 1 double crochet stitch and the second row starting and ending with 3 double crochet stitches, pull the yellow yarn through the last 2 loops to change to the Yellow yarn at the end of the second row of Red yarn
11. Next, work two more rows in the Granny Stripe pattern but in the Yellow yarn and change back to the Green yarn at the end of the second yellow yarn row
12. Keep repeating the above pattern, working 2 rows of each colour in the Granny stripe pattern until you have worked 18 rows in total and you have 3 repeats of each colour
13. Cut the yarn, fasten off and weave in all the ends
14. The two border rounds are next. Join the Green yarn to the end of Row 18, with the right side of the work facing
15. Work single crochet stitches (double crochet stitches in UK terms) across the top of row 18, then work one extra single crochet stitch into the last stitch
16. Now turn the bookmark 90 degrees clockwise and work single crochet stitches into the row ends (the posts) of the stitches
17. Continue across the whole side until you reach the foundation chains, work one extra single crochet stitch in the corner, then turn the bookmark 90 degrees clockwise and make single crochet stitches across the foundation chains
18. Continue working single crochet stitches all the way round, working back up the other side edge until you reach the beginning of your round, ensuring that the total number of single crochet stitches can be divided equally by 4, then finish the round with a slip stitch into the first single crochet stitch and then change to the red yarn to work the final round
19. The final round is worked in repeats of 2 single crochet stitches (double crochet stitches in UK terms), and then 2 half double crochet stitches (half treble crochet stitches in UK terms), and then repeat the 4 stitches all the way round until the beginning, finish the round with a slip stitch into the first single crochet stitch
Cut the yarn and fasten off and weave in your ends and ta dah! A super quick and easy bookmark!
This project is the perfect project for beginner crocheters and fantastic if you are looking for quick and easy crochet projects!
Why don’t you give it a try!
