This is Megan looking to the side and wearing an emerald colour knitted headband, which features a knitted cable section in the centre

I first created this headband back in 2021 and it was the first ever thing I knitted myself following my own pattern! It’s pretty straightforward, but I absolutely love the colour of the yarn and the simple garter stitch with cabling in the middle creates a really lovely texture.

It’s a great place for beginner knitters to start, and can be knit up fairly quickly as well.

So without further ado – this is my free knitted headband!

Perfect for some of the blustery weather we’ve been having lately! When I first made it, it took me the weekend to make, fitting it in between family life, and I still love the result. It is essentially just a cable knit in the middle, with both front and back cable stitches and plain basic knit stitches either side.

And, in case you fancy making this yourself:

I used my 5mm knitting needles and my Stylecraft special chunky wool in Empire colour.

The pattern I created was:

Cast on 19 stitches

Row 1: Knit 19 stitches

Row 2: Knit 5 Purl 9 Knit 5

Row 3: Knit 5 C6F Knit 8

Row 4: Knit 5 Purl 9 Knit 5

Row 5: Knit 19 stitches

Row 6: Knit 5 Purl 9 Knit 5

Row 7: Knit 8 C6B Knit 5

Row 8: Knit 5 Purl 9 Knit 5

And then I just kept repeating this until I had a length which fitted nicely around my head!

I joined the ends together with a simple mattress stitch to completely finish it.
